Winfield Marine stands miles above the rest, and believe me, I've heard them all. He's a musical evolution well beyond Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King!!! The OUTSIDE OF TOWN album is pure Winfield Marine. NEVER TOO OLD is high pitched pure old fashioned boogie woogie. A get-up-and-dance, number. Encouraging everyone, no matter how old, to shake their booty. YOU'RE AWESOME is as funky as any Keith Richard's instrumental. Unlike John Lennon's humor, that only came out off-stage or in brief microphone outtakes, Winfield's lightheartedness is present throughout. MY FRIEND is an endearing song. His vocals are comforting, much like John Lennon or Brian Wilson. Like most of Winfield's performances, you can't resist clapping along. FAITH, HOPE & LOVE is highly rhythmic, with Jimi Hendrix-like guitar licks. The organ rhythm and drum beat makes your head bob forward and back. Winfield can do justice to any song. Whether fast and upbeat or soothing and slow. Whatever the tempo, Winfield grabs you and never lets go. He tells it like it is. IT'S A GREAT DAY FOR BEING ALIVE is high energy from the git-go. Encouraging and rejuvenating. The whole group here plays their heads off, while Winfield leads with Chuck Berry-like guitar instrumentals. Obviously his collaboration with his backup group, his direction of the orchestra, are works of genius. FALSELY ACCUSED sounds like Mike Love (Beach Boys) rejuvenated with a touch of Frank Zappa. I NEED MERCY wails with slow purified electric blues. And powerful electric guitar techniques that I've never heard before. I NEED MERCY is like John Lennon's LOSING YOU, but better! Again his backup group is astounding.
GOD IS WITH ME begins with beautiful Jamaican-like intros, that blow your mind from the start. CHRISTIAN CHILD is a masterpiece. It begins with low bass guitar, mind-twisting sounds, and Winfield's wailing guitar playing. Smashing, pulsating, bass drum beats, and a wedding-like procession of singing, that merges into a fantastic guitar instrumental. Winfield is joined here with a sweet reverberating vocal accompaniment, that truly takes you to up into Heaven. WISE MEN STILL SEEK HIM takes you back to ancient times. His skilled plucking on his guitar strings sounds like twinkling stars in an ancient Middle Eastern night sky. It's Christmas compacted into one song. A soothing bass guitar joins in with Winfield's guitar techniques. Add his echoing song lyrics, filled with wisdom, and the whole song goes right into your soul. The album ends with PROVISION a unique procession that is imbued with ancient chanting, tolling, and climbing electric guitar notes. Winfield soothingly sings a heartfelt message. And finally JESUS RISING is the Ascension of Jesus Christ, in a style like the Electric Light Orchestra. A celestial electric guitar trip, that has a constant, driving, head-bobbing drum beat. Again, an evolution of Jimi Hendrix that takes you out of this world.
