Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Led Zeppelin were the best. Created from the top musicians of the Sixties-Jimmy Page is believed to have played on over half of all British-released records between 1963 and 1965-they became one of the most successful bands of all time. Formed in 1968 from the ashes of The Yardbirds, the band's name came from a chance remark made by Keith Moon, who said they would 'go down like a lead balloon'. Their debut album, 'Led Zeppelin', became an instant classic, as have most of their releases. After the success of '68, Led Zeppelin repeatedly topped the charts, both in Britain and the US, for over a decade and their staggeringly famous 'Stairway to Heaven' has become an anthem for guitarists and Rock-lovers the world over. Their 'amazing chemistry' (Jimmy Page) and the raw energy of the band's electrifying performances ensured hero-worship throughout the globe.

Led Zeppelin played together until 1980, when they disbanded following the tragic death of John Bonham, at the age of 33. They spawned a generation of imitators and an enduring legacy of Rock that can never be bettered.

Packed to the hilt with facts and essential quotations from the idols and those who knew them, loved them, worked with them, envied them and hated them, the Modern Icons series is a major celebration of the heroes of rock-n-roll-the good, the great and the idolized.

Titles include:

Bob Marley
The Clash
Kiss
Led Zeppelin

In my opinion, Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock and roll band of all time. I stumbled upon this little book in a bookstore for a cheap price, so I decided to purchase it. This is not a book that documents the origins, members, etc. of the band in detail. This is a book that can be easily read in no more than ten to fifteen minutes as it is under 100 pages and the text is spread out, and most of it falls on every other page.

The majority of this little book is made up of quotations from the bandmembers, magazine and newspaper writers, and peers of Led Zeppelin. There is not a lot of text that comes directly from the author, but that's okay. I enjoyed reading the thoughts and impressions of many people on the band during the time that Led Zeppelin was popular.

The introduction by Tony Horkins is well done and is probably the best part of the book text wise. The introduction is twelve pages long and documents the beginning of the band, starting with Jimmy Page. Horkins just writes his thoughts on the band, which are positive, of course. As said above, the majority of the book is made up of quotes, with a limited amount of general comments by somebody, who I assume is Tony Horkins.

If you need one reason to purchase this book then the photographs should be that reason. The pictures are in both black and white and color, and are full of exceptional quality. Most of the photos show the bandmembers performing at concerts, although there are a few still shots of the guys.

This is a very quick read that will be enjoyed and will be looked at over and over again in the future. This book is a nice keepsake to show friends and family, and would make a great gift for a Led Zeppelin fan as well.

Happy Reading!

This book is barely a drop in the bucket when it comes to Zeppelin. I've seen restaurant menus that are more insightful than this book. It might be great if you are a 7 year old who can't use "big" words, or if you don't a have an attention span over 15 minutes. Most people should just pass on this book.

What a waste of money

I don't know what book the Wisconson reader was reviewing, but it couldn't have been this book. It is a must for Led Zeppelin fans, must not buy. It does not go very deep into anything. How deep can you go with a book that's only 96 small pages, half of which are pictures. I didn't know a whole lot about Zeppelin's background to begin with, that's why I bought the book, and after reading it, which took about 10 minutes, I still don't know much about Zeppelin's background. I could have written a more informative book with the little I did know about them. The bulk of the book is just the author telling us how great Led Zeppelin was, which we already knew to begin with. If you want to read something more substantive, I can recommend "Led Zeppelin: In their own words", the other book I bought.

This book is definitely a must read for all of the Zeppelin fans out there. The book goes very deep about Zep's beginning and their rough times (their excesses in the party scene) and it shows how such an innovative rock band, sometimes considered heavy metal legend will never cease. The sound will go on forever and they will never be forgotten. This book is an excellent biography describing how the band basically came from nowhere in a sense and led to the greatness that is and always will be - Led Zeppelin.
