These books are wonderful. I am tutoring a sixth grader who is not motivated to read. I was desperate for a really good book to hook him. I remembered Barbara Park's books for younger kids and hoped that she had written something for older kids. She did!! These books are so funny and so appropriate for preteens. The main character Alex, has all of the thoughts and insecurities of a real boy, and he gets himself into these amusing situations. My student and I take turns reading passages from the book. We both sit there laughing at his attempts to disentangle himself from the messes he creates. The language in the book is realistic. The kids are real. I was saved. And although my [...] has not become a perfect student, he loves the books and I have a wonderful tool for instruction.

I bought this book for my 10-year-old son who is a huge Junie B. Jones fan! He loved it so much his new nickname is Skinnybones! I don't think we've ever been disappointed in Barbara Park! She has an amazing insight into what kids want to read! Go Barbara Park!

My son's 3rd grade class read this book and was tested on it. I read the book and was surprised that they were reading it. It had a bunch of sarcasm that I thought would be over their heads, plus it used some behavior that I thought was inapproprite like calling someone stupid or telling someone to shut up. I think this book, which was a cute read, should have been for kids in the 4th grade or above.

Alex "skinnybones" is back for more in this hilarious sequel to Skinnybones. Alex has won a contest and is going to star in a TV commercial. The anticipation of this event has Alex filled with ideas for his upcoming fame and celebrity. He fantasizes about signing autographs and his future in show business. However, as Alex finds out, it's not always a done deal! Alex is hilarious in this return of Barbara Park's story about "dreams" and reality. She really knows how to pack the laugh- out-loud moments in all her comedic offerings. I have never known a child not to almost "roll on the floor" with laughter. If your child reads this book, and you are listening, you will be granted a wonderful memory of your child's delight in books!
